Today, at the advent of the 5G era, there are increasing usage scenarios for consumers across regions and networks. Consequently, data-traffic capacity has become the main demand for communication. To implement the global strategy and serve users, Lenovo Connect announced the establishment of a European subsidiary at the MWC 2017 on February 27, thus heralding the launch of the Lenovo Connect global service.

On April 26, Lenovo Connect launched China's first NB-IoT module C1100 (which accommodates networks of all kinds) at the China Unicom Crowdfunding 5.0 Conference, where the company announced that it would achieve million-level mass production in June. Additionally, Lenovo launched a full range of 2G, 3G and 4G IoT modules. Those products embody the confidence and determination of Lenovo as a contributor and motivator of the intelligent IoT era.

Million-level mass production of NB-IoT module to spark the IoT market

Smart IoT is the general trend that major technology manufacturers are following. They focus on development in the IoT field as they introduce series of related products, services and solutions. As an innovative technology in the realm of IoT, NB-IoT has been eagerly anticipated by many industries and sectors due to its wide coverage, multiple connections, low speed, low cost and low power consumption. The Lenovo Connect C1100 module is designed in strict accordance with the NB-IoT communication standard protocol. Along with the above NB-IoT features, it has multi-mode functions thatsupport NB-IoT, eMTC and EGPRS.

This module is tailor-made for the global networking and M2M markets, as it supports all kinds of networks through multi-mode, embedded integration and e-SIM global service. This makes it suitable for the wireless connection of IoT terminals, which can effectively solve many of the problems in the contemporary IoT. It answers the needs of industry customers in different scenarios and can be widely used in smart home, smart medical care, smart city, smart environmental protection, smart vehicle connection and elsewhere.

According to Martin, vice president of Lenovo Group and general manager of Lenovo Connect, "Our module is the standard and important interface of IoT, and it can support data transmission and communication. The release of the NB-IoT module will promote the technological development trend of high-speed communication modules in the field of IoT, meet the diverse application needs of the IoT industry, and provide a broader development space for smart IoV, smart environmental protection and other industries that seek to participate in IoT. The new module will be ready for million-level mass production in June, and it will greatly facilitate the growth of IoT."

Steady progress in the Lenovo Connect Global Program empowers the era of smart IoT

As another trillion-level market following the mobile Internet, the IoT is the next "important productive force" driving the rapid development of the world economy. Yang Yuanqing, chairman and CEO of Lenovo Group said, Lenovo serves as the contributor and enabler in the era of smart Internet. To achieve its vision for the era of smart Internet, Lenovo proposed a three-prong strategy of personal computer business, mobile business and data center business, and "device + cloud."

Responding to the group strategy, Lenovo Connect proposed the Lenovo Connect Global Program as the means to capitalize on its own advantages. Lenovo Billing, Lenovo ID and Lenovo SIM are already in operation, so the launch of Lenovo Module marks the basic completion of the global enabling platform and the improvement of the smart IoT ecosystem. Martin noted, "At the heart of the Lenovo Connect Global Program is the Global Lenovo API platform. It's an open platform of light operation, aiming to gather resources such as global intelligent connections and device cloud services to provide smart IoT services. Lenovo Module is an important part of the platform, as it realizes connection management and device management. On this basis, Lenovo provides a package of end-to-end IoT services, enabling the smart connectivity of all things."

According to IDC, a market-research firm, the global IoT market will reach US$1.7 trillion by 2020. Thus Lenovo, ZTE, Huawei and other domestic mainstream makers of terminal devices must adapt their strategies and focus more on the IoT field in order to secure a share of the new market. Lenovo Connect's all-round layout in smart IoT will lead to changes in the market structure of IoT and advance the development of the smart IoT era.
