The Mobile World Congress (MWC 2017), an annual event in the field of mobile communications, kicked off in the city of Barcelona, Spain, on February 27, 2017. Lenovo Connect, a subsidiary of Lenovo Capital & Incubator Group, unveiled a world-first: the e-SIM laptop. The launch of e-SIM service further reflected the deep thinking that Lenovo Connect has devoted to the realm of the smart Internet during the past year, highlighting its determination to build a new, smart Internet platform and promote a global development process.

Dr. Martin Wang, vice president of Lenovo Group and general manager of Lenovo Connect, delivered the product release and demonstration during the press conference. He stated that the global e-SIM operation platform, as adopted by the new products, was built by Lenovo Connect by integrating internal and external resources together with domestic and international excellent telecom operators such as China Unicom as well as the SIM card manufacturer Giesecke.

As part of the functional module for smart devices, the e-SIM no longer has a physical card. More importantly, it is rewritable at any time and supports switching of network technology operators. This approach makes mobile devices more economical for ordinary consumers and enterprise users, in addition to which it brings higher convenience and security.

Lenovo Connect was the first to use the e-SIM service on Lenovo's laptops and tablets, which had the feature built-in. Accordingly, users can enjoy "Always Online Service" across regions, networks, devices, accounts and boundaries. It's also the country's first laptop with e-SIM service, thus positioning Lenovo Connect at the forefront of the smart Internet process.

Martin told reporters at the meeting, "Last year, the GSMA officially released the e-SIM standard. Lenovo, through active research and development, is working to promote the commercial use of products as soon as possible. So, e-SIM technology will be sure to drive the development and popularization of smart Internet. Furthermore, Lenovo has established a worldwide presence. Lenovo Connect will bring users in all such regions localized communication network services and global, one-stop services."

Given the arrival of 4G, more and more of the devices around us can always be online. However, they must have networking functions in order to do so. The IoT--a once-illusory concept--has begun to change lives by connecting everything. However, independent smart devices and geographical barriers have limited the value that such devices can provide. Only by interconnecting these devices and breaking through those geographical limits to achieve effective data exchange and control can Lenovo Connect offer the most valuable smart Internet service.

The era of 5G is coming, and the population of mobile Internet users brought by the IoT and smart connectivity will grow by a factor of ten to 100 times. In the future, the value of the communication market will shift from functional communication to smart connectivity. Therefore, by taking advantage of the processes and resources of Lenovo globalization, Lenovo Connect strives to consolidate its presence in the country. More importantly, it seeks to achieve global added value across regions, devices and accounts. Lenovo Connect links the resources of communication, mobile phone, PC and cloud service to deliver a seamless, smart connectivity experience. It realizes the connection of devices to users, networks, devices, data and services, bringing users a series of value-added services and solutions as it gives life to Lenovo's smart Internet service platform.
